Wow. Two years since my last entry! Yes, I've been busy trying to find a secure foothold in this economic climate of ours. Is there such a thing as "security" nowadays? It was General Douglas MacArthur who said "There is no security on this Earth, there is only opportunity".
Well, the General was right. Look at the economic mess we're in: unemployment, the Big 3 automakers, Wall Street, housing, etc. What I considered smart investments (homes, stocks), and goliath companies (automakers and banks) became so unstable that they came tumbling down...just like Jack and Jill after reaching the top of the hill. No security in any industry. So where and when did opportunity come in?
Opportunity was there for the picking by all the opportunists: banks, unscrupulous lenders and their loan consultants, scam artists who worked the housing market and the system, investors, realtors, buyers and sellers, stock traders, builders and homeowners. Yeah, most of us, if not all of us contributed to the madness. If you re-financed so you can use the equity to buy something, then you contributed. Doesn't matter what your personal reasons were, we all somehow pitched in. We're in this mess because of opportunists who took the opportunity to buy, sell, and trade.
But even within this mess, there is the opportunity to rebuild. President Obama already started with the stimulus package. Sure it's not the answer to every problem we face, but it's a start. We have to start somewhere and work out the kinks as we move forward.
What can we do to help? Let's limit our spending but do not stop spending. Support our local businesses (big and small, especially small business owners). If we keep $$ revolving, we'll slowly get the economy going.
I'm optimistic that things will start to turn around within 2-3 years. In the meantime, I'm looking for other opportunities. I may have found one...but that is for another blog. Stay tuned...
