The flu
Wow. This flu season got the best of me. I decided during the fall of 2005 that I would not get the flu shot as usual. I've always been afraid of needles. Anything I can do to avoid needles, I will do...including braving every flu season. Well, this time the virus hit me hard.....or maybe it's because I'm getting older and my body is not quite as strong as it was during my younger years. I started feeling "in the dumps" about a week ago, Friday. It all started with an overall feeling of "blah": tired, sleepy, no apetite. Then during the weekend, the sore throat became more apparent, the body aches more pronounced. By Sunday, I was in bed with a sinus headache, scratchy throat and an awful, dry cough. By the time I woke up Monday morning, I had a raging fever, a congested chest, stuffed up nose and plugged-up ears and my whole body, including my jaw, was aching! The fever lasted 2 days. By Wednesday, I was feeling a little better. Coughing was not so bad anymore. Fever had subsided. Nose was unstuffed. Eyes weren't so watery and puffy looking. I felt good enough to finally take a warm shower and wash my hair. I needed a good hair washing since it had been almost 4 days since I last shampooed. Gosh, I felt so clean and even better after the shower. And my "blah" attitude changed in a flash. The day started to look great. And I was ready to clean the house and take care of some business! By the end of the day, I had accomplished most of what I set out to do that day: clean the whole downstairs of the house, my bathroom, bill-paying, sorting mail and clearing out my email inbox. The next couple of days will be used to catch up on my marketing for this quarter. I am already a week behind schedule contacting past clients. Must get on the roll. Maybe this fall, I'll get a flu shot.
